Providing the essential knowledge to aid in the fight against firearms crime.
Arquebus offers an unparalleled range of training and development solutions that reflect our commitment to providing the essential knowledge to aid in the fight against firearms crime, be that Crime Scene Investigation or Senior Investigating Officer training, Arquebus is here to support you with your training needs.
At Arquebus we believe that training should be given by practitioners, people who use the very process, or system, that are being taught. By following this ethos, we can ensure the knowledge transferred is based on real-world experience and not just what it says in the manual.
We recognise from working with many organisations across the globe that capacity building means more than providing a short-term training fix. Our training courses involve practical and experiential learning, interactivity with participants, fully documented course material and a post-training report. Arquebus aims to create a ‘champion’ of the knowledge or skills as part of the training, to provide a basis for participants to create a self-sustaining environment for professional development and new staff.
Arquebus has a range of training courses available – they include forensic ballistics, investigation, ballistics intelligence and SALW control measures. A key component of Arquebus’ approach is creating interconnectivity between these disciplines to ensure information can flow between the laboratory, investigators, and the Firearms Focal Point.
Building Forensic and Intelligence Capacity
Key areas Arquebus can support with training needs in forensic ballistics include IBIS training & integration, double casting, comparative microscopy, laboratory process development and ballistic fingerprinting (test-fire) programs.
Arquebus has provided numerous Double Casting courses around the world and is highly experienced in both the theoretical and practical application of the process. As such we can offer hands-on practical training that will ensure users have the necessary skills required to deliver the Double Casting process for years to come.
Our courses on SALW Controls include Firearms Registration and Licensing, Firearms Amnesties, Understanding Converted Firearms and Firearms Trafficking. Courses on Ballistics Intelligence aim to develop the necessity to produce intelligence and the role of a Firearms Focal Point.

Firearms are durable and modular goods, which circulate in both civilian and state possession. Firearms can also easily be disassembled and re-assembled, can lie dormant for years before being misused, and are frequently smuggled and trafficked across international borders. Without accountability throughout the lifecycle of a firearm, or an accurate understanding of the firearms in circulation within a jurisdiction, other crucial elements of WAM such as marking, tracing and profiling, stockpile management and the collection and destruction of firearms are swiflty undermined. Understanding these challenges, Arquebus maintains that a crucial tool for sustained and expansive progress in minimising the impact of SALW misuse upon human security is an effective national firearms registry.

Arquebus CEO Paul James discusses the parallels to his experience tackling firearms crime in the Western Balkans, making a call to action for a proactive security response.

The criminal misuse of SALW has become increasingly understood as a threat to collective security, with the illicit proliferation of SALW being recognised as a significant enabler for other criminal activities such as drug trafficking, whilst also engendering a perception of general insecurity which undermines public confidence in national authorities’ ability to secure populations (SOCTA, 2021).
